My Father’s House, Buckner Celebrate Union in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – More than 100 friends and supporters gathered in Lubbock on Tuesday, May 6 to celebrate the joining of My Father’s House Lubbock and Buckner Children and Family Services.

City mayor David A. Miller issued a special recognition to My Father’s House and Buckner on behalf of the City of Lubbock, honoring each organization’s contributions to the community and supporting the recently combined services as they “unite to minister to those most-in-need.”

“These are exciting times for My Father’s House,” said interim director Paula Smith. “We are a young ministry. We’ve only been around for four years. To now be a part of an organization with such a long history and so many years of experience, it gives us great hope and excitement for the future of our programs.”

Buckner assumed operation of the ministry to single mothers in February at the request of the My Father’s House Board of Directors.

“We did not come to acquire My Father’s House,” said President and CEO Ken Hall. “We do not acquire anything. We come because we were asked…just like we were asked to help the Milam Girls’ Home in Lubbock in the 50s. We are committed to sustain this ministry, but we need [the Lubbock community’s] support in order to do so.”

There are currently nine women and seven children living in the residential care program at My Father’s House. Each woman attends classes at the Christian Women’s Job Corp on campus and receives support to reach self sufficiency. More than 90 children attend the child development center on campus.

Other Buckner programs in Lubbock include Buckner Children’s Home, foster care and adoption services and an after-school program at Oakwood Baptist Church.

My Father’s House Lubbock is part of Buckner Children and Family Services, a global Christian ministry to orphans, at-risk children and families.
