Volunteers Make the Difference

June Hutson may be retired, but it doesn’t keep her from getting up early each Thursday morning and going to work.

She arrives at the My Father’s House Lubbock kitchen, puts on some latex gloves and begins her meticulous labor of love – cutting carrots and loading hamburger buns to build sloppy joes.

“When they need someone, I come,” she said. “Since I retired, you have to have a reason to get up in the morning. On Thursday, this is why I get up.”

Hutson has been volunteering to serve meals at My Father’s House since the building’s foundation was first laid in 2001. She enjoys helping people, she said. And she enjoys knowing her efforts help the ministry.

“If they had to pay someone to do what I do, it would take away from something else,” she said.

Volunteers are always needed at My Father’s House. If you have a special gift or talent – or you just have the gift of time – you can help women achieve their goals of self sufficiency. Volunteers are needed to help the Christian Women’s Job Corp, the ‘Dress for Success’ clothing closet and more.

Christian Women’s Job Corp to Graduate 15 Students

Fifteen women will graduate from Christian Women’s Job Corp’s spring classes on April 25 at 7 p.m. in Lowrie Chapel with a short reception to follow in the dining hall.

“It’s inspiring to witness children praise their mothers for educational success,” said Paula Smith, interim director at My Fathers House. “Smiles all around are the order for the day.”
