More About our Residential program

Residents and their children live in a furnished two or four-bedroom private apartments. Each apartment is complete with a large refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, television, personal computer and private bath. The four-bedroom apartments have two private baths. If needed, residents are provided with clothing and some personal-care items such as bed linens, towels and other hygiene supplies.

Residents may live in these apartments for the duration of their participation if they are enrolled in full-time educational training with a part time job in order to become fully self-sufficient and the provider for their family.

They are able to choose their preferred college or enroll in a career school. If they are in college, a work-study program may fit better because of our available childcare from 8-5 p.m. If a resident wants to apply for our childcare, she may do so and get financial assistance while in school and in a job.

Upon admission at Buckner My Father’s House, mothers define their short-term and long-term goals. Once established, our staff will meet with each one privately to review their progress. Monthly classes are also required for residents to continue their personal education such as car care, safety issues, parenting, budge, etc. Their motivation, accountability and commitment to change is stimulated by goal-setting and monthly meetings that encourage success.

As a resident reaches her goals, a transition plan is developed to help her achieve success for her future. The customized plan may include a full-time job, apartment, furniture, buying a vehicle and other means necessary to help achieve full self sufficiency.

In our residential program, we want to offer the following to single mothers:
• Opportunities for education and/or career training
• Offers Guidance on how to keep a healthy job
• Provides a path towards self sufficiency
• Provides housing and child care for mom and children
• Encourages and guides mothers to be effective and loving
• Allows women to equip themselves with skills to manage key relationships and responsibilities
• Guides participants in setting short and long- term goals and demonstrate them
• Helps women make personal choices that reflect a healthy and holy lifestyle
• Requires that participants own a vehicle and sustain payments and insurance
• Offers network plans that allow participants to stay in school or find a job even when their child may be sick

My Father’s House Lubbock is an ecumenical ministry that provides a way for women who are poverty-impacted, homeless, abused or at-risk to take a new direction in their lives.
