Our Services: Residential and Vocational Program

My Father’s House Lubbock provides women with a safe, structured living environment as they study and practice job readiness skills to become self sufficient.

Private Apartments
Residents and their children live in a fully-furnished, two-bedroom private apartment, complete with a refrigerator, microwave oven, television and personal computer and a private bath. Residents are provided with personal care items such as bed linens, towels, soap, shampoo, diapers and other hygiene supplies. Clothing is also available to residents through a used clothing boutique on campus, staffed by volunteers and stocked by donors.

Residents may live in these apartments for the duration of their educational and vocational training as they make the transition to become fully self sufficient as providers for their families.

Community Areas
Residents share access to laundry and exercise rooms, chapel, classrooms, reception and guest area and the dining hall. Residents are provided with secure parking and an enclosed children’s play area, as well as an atrium prayer garden.

Vocational Training
Residents participate in vocational instruction to practice job skills and develop expertise in certain areas. Occupations may include:

• Childhood Development Certification: Residents prepare for employment in licensed child care centers. Program includes CPR and first aid training, state licensing regulation and basic employment skills.
• Commercial Kitchen: Residents gain hospitality skills including Health Department regulation training, and food service preparation. Students learn wait-staff skills, safe work habits, sanitation and customer service skills.
• Commercial Housekeeping: All residents participate in basic cleaning, including the care of floors, wall coverings, fixtures and furniture. They also learn basic operation of maintenance equipment, chemical and non-chemical cleaning, sanitation, safe work habits and time management skills.
• Event Coordination: Selected students learn to plan, organize and implement banquets, parties and other special events held at the My Father’s House campus. They learn customer service skills, how to order food and supplies, and how to manage a budget.
• Clerical Skills: Residents can learn basic skills needed to be a receptionist, secretary or data entry clerk by training on office equipment and learning computer software skills.
• Landscape/Garden Maintenance: Residents learn about landscaping and gardening through tilling, weeding and harvesting plants, watering and providing pest control and other exterior maintenance duties.

Setting Goals and Transitioning
Upon admission at My Father’s House, women define short-term and long-term goals. Once established, staff will meet with residents regularly to review the progress in reaching these goals and to help when needed. The motivation, accountability and commitment to change stimulated by the goal-setting process helps encourage success.

As a resident reaches her goals, a transition plan is developed to help her achieve success. The individualized plan may include a job, further education, apartment, furniture, vehicle or other means necessary to help achieve full self sufficiency.
