Vocational Training

Resident women may participate in vocational instruction and may work in the various areas to practice job skills and develop expertise. Occupations available as resources and/or interest permit.

Childhood Development Certification

Residents prepare for employment in licensed child care centers. The program includes CPR and first aid training, state licensing regulation and basic employment skills. This element prepares mothers to become better parents.

Commercial Kitchen Certification

Residents gain hospitality job-specific skills including Health Department regulation, training, and certification and foodservice preparation. Students learn wait-staff skills, safe work habits and procedure, sanitation, and customer service skills.

Commercial Housekeeping

Each resident participates in basic building cleaning and care of floors, wall coverings, fixtures, and furniture including operation and maintenance of equipment, chemical and non-chemical cleaning, sanitation, safe work habits and procedures, and tme management and scheduling.

Event Coordination

Selected students learn to plan, organize, and carryout banquets, parties, weddings, other events, learning to order supplies and food and to manage a budget. Customer contact skills are enhanced.

Clerical Skills

This position builds proficiency as a receptionist, secretary or data entry clerk by training in the use of basic office machines and computer software.

Landscape/Garden Skills

Each resident participates in landscape and garden activities through tilling, weeding, and harvesting plant watering, pest control, and exterior maintenance duties.
